Course Length
1 Year

Start Date
September 2024

This is a one-year, full-time course, teaching across the 5-11 age range with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) upon successful completion.

Throughout the 38 weeks of school-based learning, trainees gain practical teaching experience across two age phases within at least two contrasting schools who are part of our ITT partnership.

Trainees work alongside and are supported by class mentors, who challenge them to become highly effective, fully qualified teachers.

Core Curriculum

The core curriculum includes professional and subjects studies to equip trainees with the knowledge of the statutory frameworks including the Primary National Curriculum, alongside developing a deep understanding of current pedagogical research.

Trainees complete two training placements across 2 contrasting schools, giving trainees experience in both Key Stages 1 and 2.  This is supplemented by enhanced experience in the early years and in KS3.

Trainees will benefit from accessing training via face to face training sessions, deliberate practice clinics, instructional coaching as well as online learning modules.

I am currently training with NW SCITT on the Primary programme and am happy to recommend this course to anyone who wants to train to teach. NW SCITT valued my degree in dance education as well as the 15 years of dance teaching experience I held and saw how there were many transferrable skills such as communication, creativity, resourcefulness, planning and organisation to bring to teaching.  The interview process is informal, the interviewers want to find your potential and about you as a human being, not try to trick you or make you feel ill at ease.  Following my interview, I secured a job at one of the partner schools and that gave me an excellent platform to prepare for teaching.  As a result of this experience as a TA, my transition to the SCITT programme in September was smooth and although I am only 8 weeks into the programme, ongoing mentoring from my class teacher Lucy (who is herself an ex SCITT student), support from my Head Teacher and coaching from Nina, my Link Tutor, is already making me believe that I can and will be a strong classroom teacher by June 2022.

While my route into teaching is unusual, I know I have made the right career change for me and my family.  Having trained as a Solicitor and worked in an international law firm I had a desire to change my career direction and took the brave decision to train to teach.  Researching local providers of ITT, I chose NW SCITT because I was impressed by the employment success rate of the course as well as it being clear that NW SCITT would invest in me and my career, providing me with training from experts across the curriculum and two high quality training placements. I would encourage those of you who want to make a change in their career to take the plunge!  At the end of the course, I secured a teaching post in the SCITT Partner School St George's CofE and can safely say that NW SCITT provided the best possible training so that I have been able to hit the ground running.
